Flocking, Following & Spontaneous Unison

  • Mountain View Studio 20 Mountain View Ave Woodstock, NY USA (map)

Sunday afternoons, 13 classes. $165 for the series, $15/class drop-in.

A murmuration of starlings. A floating ocean of dandelion seeds on the wind. Flocking geese. The perfection of a corp de ballet pirouetting simultaneously. Each of these forms represents a type of unison, a seemingly magical blend of the similar and individual moving together.

Flocking, Following & Spontaneous Unison is all about dancing as a group body. In this series we’ll experience many forms of dancing-as-one-body as we focus on the use of individual movement, time (rhythm), and attention in various ways. We will learn to differentiate and integrate our own unique, multifaceted movement “fingerprints”. We will use time, rhythm, and body-memory to experience and deepen an appreciation of precise unison. We will cultivate a deep awareness of our vision, periphery, and sympathetic movement as we experience the truly astonishing practice of unison as a form that emerges naturally. Working with the body in this way, we also of course train the mind.

This class is open to dancers at all experience levels, from accomplished professionals to complete beginners, age 13 and older. All genders are encouraged to participate.
